USDF

The USDF has adopted the USEF Safe Sport Policy, promoting the safety and welfare of horses and athletes. USDF is committed to providing information, resources, and a protocol so that all members of the equestrian community have awareness, tools, and a support structure to ensure a safe and positive environment for equestrians to develop their skills.

The USEF and USDF depends on the eyes and ears of its athletes, coaches, and designees to support its Safe Sport policies. It is requested that all who participate in equestrian sport become familiar with the content of the USEF Safe Sport Policy, the U.S. Center for Safe Sport’s Safe Sport Code, complete the Safe Sport Training modules, and be mindful of its guidelines during training sessions and competitions.

Information on the Protecting Young Victim from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017 can be found on the USEF Safe Sport website. The website also provides information for a 24 Hour Helpline, reporting protocols and many other important resources.

As part of the USDF Safe Sport Initiative, USDF Certified Instructors and L Graduates are required to complete the Safe Sport Training provided by the U.S. Center for Safe Sport, along with other identified volunteers working with our youth.

To complete the Safe Sport Training modules, you must visit the USEF website, log in, and the link to the Safe Sport Training modules will be in your USEF Membership dashboard. Once registered, there are three activities that must be completed to complete the training:

  • Sexual Misconduct Awareness Education

  • Mandatory Reporting

  • Emotional and Physical Misconduct

  •

If you are required to complete the training and are not a member of USEF, contact USDF for further instructions.

USEF

Who is required to take the Safe Sport training?
Any USEF member who is 18 years old and above and who has a USEF Adult Competing Membership is required to take the Safe Sport training, including amateurs, professionals, and owners who have an annual, three-year, or lifetime membership. The Safe Sport training requirement does not include USEF Fan Members.

How long do I have to complete the requirement?
All USEF Adult Competing Members must complete the training within 30 days of joining or renewing their membership. USEF will provide members who renew or join on or after December 1, 2018, a 30-day grace period to complete the Safe Sport training. Members joining prior to December 1, 2018, will have until January 1, 2019, to complete the training.

What happens if I do not comply with the training requirement?
Those who do not complete the Safe Sport training will be ineligible to participate in USEF activities, including competitions.

How often do I need to complete the Safe Sport training?
The required Safe Sport Core Training (approximately 90 minutes) only needs to be completed once. A Safe Sport Refresher training course, which takes approximately 30 minutes, must be completed annually thereafter. US Equestrian is providing Adult Competing Members a 30-day grace period to complete the training.

Why is there not a Safe Sport training for US Equestrian junior members?
There is a Safe Sport Training module for youth in the works. This training will be available approximately in October, 2018. Currently, there is a free Safe Sport training module for parents in addition to a Safe Sport Parent Toolkit, which has information for parents of preschool, middle school, and school-age children.
