How to Be a Good Board Member- Training Session
ODS to host meeting: “How to be a Good Board Member”
6pm Stroud City Hall Meeting Room
October 18, 2017
Greg Jones, Immediate Past President of the Oklahoma Society of CPAs, teaches a classes on non-for profit operation CPAs. We hope the Greg’s presentation will be a starting point in assessing where we are with regard to
conducting meetings, budgets, and liability as individuals versus a corporate entity, conflict of interest, ethics, & rapport among members, officers, and chapters. He will start with the basic rights of each board member under our bylaws, including the right to suggest a course of action (make motions), the right to discuss that course of action(discuss a motion), the right to vote, the right to attend meetings, and the right to elect fellow board members and officers.
However did you know, he is also a barn dad?! His daughter recently graduated from the University of Oklahoma was President of OU riding (club) team and participated in Hunter/Jumper events for most of her life.
It is our hope that Greg will introduce us to some non-for profit tools and concepts so that we can decide on issues such as:
- Implications of an annual budget.
- Whether we should have a planning retreat.
- How we might make discussion/negotiation during meetings fun!
Please check out his recent YouTube video regarding the boring and tedious procedures of Roberts Rules of Order and make them useful, easy to understand, and even fun!
